The Amazing 80s: Leggings Reincarnated

We might have to thank fashion icon and recovering addict, Kate Moss for this one. Only thy fair lady could pull off the "you can freeze ice on my @$$" black legging workout wardrobe look and make it an international must-have-item. Now the look is EVERYWHERE!
Shopping Blog.com
even highlights the trend, quoting InStyle which has a feature celebrity report on who's wearing black leggings. Images of Scarlett Johannson, Kate Moss, Madonna, and Molly Sims on the site:
Back in the day—the eighties, that is—this little Lycra garment could be found on dance floors from New York to L.A. And along with gobs of black rubber bracelets, Madonna practically made it a uniform for the oh-so-hip gal when she appeared in Desperately Seeking Susan. Then, sadly, the trend passed and black leggings were thrown into fashion purgatory—the gym. They were comfortable, breathable, supportive and slimming—all the things the exercise-crazed women of the nineties wanted for working out. These days, however, they're back with a vengeance, and for all the same reasons. Plus, they're the perfect transitional element for those not quite ready to say goodbye to summer's short skirts and tunics. The biggeset irony? Madonna's even sporting them again, albeit with diamonds and designer duds. —Karen Johnston
How can you update your black legging look? StockinGirl has all of the most creative approaches highlighted below:
  1. Layering a very sheer tattoo or floral-print pantyhose under black leggings
  2. Hitting up Bendel's and getting a footless opaque print tight or hell, just chopping off the feet of your printed tights!
  3. Hitting up Bendels for footless legging print fishnets
Stay tuned for more ways to wear legwear trends!

It's All About The Socks and Shoes

How sweet are these Prada Campaigns? Though it's been argued that Sasha looks like a Pradesque corpse, I think the images are demure with a definite hint of girly-girl sex-appeal. The main attraction? The heels with the grey over-the-knee socks of course!

Baby's Got Height: High Socks

We just can't seem to get enough of high socks lately. From fashion editorials, like the recent post from Harper's Bazaar to runway shows to ad campaings (like the ones Sasha Pivovarova wears in this season's Prada ads). Fashionologie, a fellow fashion blog covets the shoes (posted) to the right, but for me, what makes the shoes so sophisticate school-girl sexy is the below-the-knee socks. Check out wool over-the-knee socks and printed below-the-knee socks.

Stockingirl Featured in Henri Bendel's 5th Ave Window Display

Henri Bendel's recently picked up Stockingirl's line of printed opaque and fishnet leggings for their flagship store in New York. In their 5th Ave windows, they have featured Stockingirl's legwear, paired with various lengths of skirts, shorts, and pants, as well as on their own with a stylish belt. The leggings are also on showcased right as you walk in the door in their center main floor display.

Bendel's windows are known for exclaiming what is hip and fashionable at this moment. While black leggings have been an important trend this year thus far, Bendel's is declaring that the trend will continue, taking various forms in prints, fishnets, and varying lengths. Leggings are essential to complete an outfit this Spring and Summer; bare legs just won't do it.

Stockingirl leggings are available on their website, in Henri Bendel's, and various better boutiques around the country.

World Fashion: The Over the Knee Look

While Wool Over the Knee Socks are going to be hot for Fall, the over the knee look will start this Spring and Summer in Sheers. The March issue of Spanish Harper's Bazaar featured prints mixed with prints. The models wore Stockingirl Printed Thigh Highs, scrunched down to hit just above the knee. They looked fabulous paired with printed garments in the same color pallette.

The Japanese have also embraced this trend of traditional thigh highs worn as over the knee socks. Sunaokuwahara, a Japanese Designer, featured the Lace Top Stocking over the knee look with skirts for a cute, yet sexy look:

To get this look, you can buy lace top thigh highs or lace top stockings in a smaller size than you would normally wear, making them shorter, so the lace top hits your lower thigh rather than mid thigh.
